Best weekend so far in Galashiels.

One of the best pictures taken in my life. Looks like the opening title to some sort of comedy show. Love it, was the first actually amazing weekend spent in Gala. Sad that i need folks from home to come up to make it like this, but hopefully it'll get better.....

Got my leather look jeans on today... love alot, but never wear them. Very much want a pair of proper leather trousers though....but you'd probably get very sweaty. Mums got a beautiful old pair from when she used to motorbike in europe but they're too small for me...boo.

ERDEM LFW

This is my attempt to write a report for CCS at Uni, Hate how when i think in my head it makes sense but then when i try to put it into words on paper its just one giagnormous muddle of words and ideas,...hmmm.

London Fashion Week Report
Erdem S/S 2012 Collection
Erdem is always one of my favourite designers and in his spring/summer collection this year he definitely excelled himself. The collection was absolutely stunning, full of pastel, but very modern florals, mixed with a gorgeous embroderie anglais alike fabric, that added a lovely 3D detailed effect to the collection.  Cut into beautiful floaty dresses, blouses and skirts in 40’s and 50’s inspired shapes.  Tight waists and then skirts flowing out, creating beautiful feminine silhouettes. Lots of the fabric he used was lightweight and floaty, creating great movement as the models trotted down the catwalk. The whole collection was infinitely wearable. Trademark shifts and pencil skirts  provided class and set the designer away from some of LFW’s more faddy shows (holymoly.com accessed: 04/11/2011).  He topped lots of the outfits off with cute vintage little hats, including white straw boaters. The colours of the prints reminded me of my nanas pastel hydrangea collection which was always a sure sign of summer. The show crowd were in awe with Erin O’Connor saying ‘’It was like a summer garden, so jubilant. I love that he’s able to create a soft trench with that level of detail and intricacy and that everything he does is so soft and feminine.’’ (Mirnah.tumblr.com accessed: 04/11/2011).  Though the majority of the collection was in icy shades of blue, which I always do think of as slightly wintery, It remained spring/summer due to the injections of pinks, reds and yellows. Also the abundance of white is a clear indicator of a great summer collection. Erdem was definitely one of my favourite collections at London Fashion Week, even though I’m usually drawn to the totally out there,  conceptual fashion, his collections are always so beautiful and feminine I’m always drawn to them.

Freya's Bio

My full name is Freya Rosalind Isobel Skinner, Yes my initials are FRIS. Kind of suitable considering my natural hair is a ball of crazy frizz. I'm currently starting to study the Fashion BA course at Heriot-Watt. I love fashion and constantly want to create clothes and outfits. Though, I don’t ever really dress to follow fashion trends. I kinda get sick of the whole 'follow trends' thing. I'm also not a fan of the 'fast fashion culture'. I'm inspired by so many things, from the dead leaves squashed on the pavement to the music I listen to, to the people I see in the street. I love punk rock culture, rockabilly and 50s style, metal, D'n'B, jazz, all sorts. I love going to gigs, vinyl nights and festivals and spending time in the pub with friends. I look up to so many designers work, including Christopher Kane, Luella Bartley, Charlotte Olympia, Nicholas Kirkwood, Gareth Pugh... I could go on forever. I always think I might end up as an accessories designer as I can never stop buying shoes, scarves, bags etc. I also love to paint and customise all my own shoes and clothes. If I could I would just wear leopard print, polka dots, leather and studded things all the time, but my lifestyle doesn’t suit. When back home I live in the middle of nowhere so I’m mostly in wellies, jeans and old tees.  By the end of this course I'd love to set up my own wee design company, but that'll take a lot of money, so will just have to wait and see, though it would be good to work for some big designers to get experience first. But who knows I might end up doing something completely different. If I didn’t get to study fashion I would of gone and studied to be a Human Rights Lawyer. It would be amazing to be able to use fashion to put across an important message about the world or to make a difference. Like Vivienne Westwood, protesting about Guantanamo Bay. That would be the ultimate dream.

Tiered Lacquer Picnic Box
Japan Edo Period, Late 17th AD

I love this little Japanese Picnic Box, Its Black Lacquer covered and inlayed with gold hiramakie and mother of pearl. It has four little compartments in it for each different piece of the picnic.
I think this artifact is so special because it makes such a basic such as eating, a beautiful thing.

Stunning old curtain i saw on holiday in Laon in France. The french seem to go in for really lovely alternatives to boring old net curtains. I love all the shutters on the windows too. All the wee birds and flowers on the curtain above are so pretty and love the kitchness of the boats on the ones below. So cute.
